Christmas in Covina

It is a tragedy. Our condolences go out to the families of the victims and the suspect.....
*
....The Christmas massacre in Covina, California was over-the-top, even for how unhappy families deal with the challenge of that annual ordeal: The holidays. But its extreme nature shouldn't let us forget our own family dysfunctional Christmases....*
*
The main problem is families are putting too much stress/significance into Christmas. Problems we have throughout the year get pushed aside - because ONE HAS to be happy on Christmas Day. We pressure ourselves to be nice and friendly to our family - even if we feel otherwise.
We cook for them , we buy them gifts - even if we think they don't deserve it. We subject ourselves to endless family gatherings even if we can't stand half of the people we have to be in the same room with. WE force ourselves to be friendly to them even if our smile is frozen the whole time.
Upon so much pressure is it really a surprise that one or the other might snap? Human nature can only deal with so much....
Wouldn't it be so much wiser if we would slow down at Christmas - or any other holiday for that matter - and be open and honest about how we really feel about certain people? Wouldn't it be so much wiser if we would avoid the stress and pressure of Christmas by just not celebrating it?

Just a thought...

  1. I agree,it's stressful and exhausting and if you're not in a happy, loving family situation,It could even make you unhappy, depressed or angry.

Boy,your family would have to be very dysfunctional and you would have to be very angry,to kill them.
People who feel that way should stay far clear of Christmas gatherings.

  2. I'm not familiar with the case Vix.Who got killed?

    I admit,you make a very good point.
My family situation is a very happy one,and yet I'm so pleased it's over.I'm tired and sick and just want to be left alone. It feels great to be doing nothing.

  3. You can find the specifics of the case here:

    http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/New-Information-in-Christmas-Eve-Rampage.html

Apparently, a man dressed up as Santa entered a Christmas party and shot 10 people. Among the dead, a few children his ex-wife and her parents.

Jane Genova - linked in the article - wrote a very good comment about the whole case. Christmas can be hard if you are not ready for it.

I heard it on the news...you are going to have stress, there are some fools out there that just need to be locked up...he should have just killed himself and it would be all over...I have a loving family I love to be around most of them..the ones that get on my nerves..I tell them to fuck off.

  5. Today they said he planned to leave the country for Canada. They found 17.000 bucks and a ticket. His plan was to kill all the people in the house, put the house on fire and flee.
Somehow he got badly burned - so he killed himself.
It is just a tragedy. And I think that being Christmas was one factor that made him do what he did.
