Paul McCartney on Obama : ' Lay Off Him'

Paul McCartney is a man known for his words, usually when they're set to music. But he chose some special ones at the Library of Congress to praise President Obama, before whom he will soon be performing : Let him Be.
"I have to say I'm a big fan , he's a great guy," McCartney said at a Washington news conference Tuesday that was attended by politicians as well as journalists."So lay off him, he's doing great."
Tonight (Wednesday), the Beatles icon is being honored with a dinner at the White House and then will take part in a concert in tribute to his hit-laden career.
McCartney is the first non-American to be awarded the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, named for the songwriting brothers George and Ira Gershwin. The prize has been given out only twice before: Paul Simon in 2002 and Stevie Wonder in 2009.
The Liverpool, England-born McCartney , who turns 68 this month, is no strangers to receiving awards, having been knightred by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997. But at Tuesday's News conference, the formally titled Sir Paul said he was nervous about performing in the East Room, "like 3 feet away" from Obama. "I wouldn't have believed you if you told me as a kid growing up in Liverpool that this would happen," he said. "So it's very special to me."
The Jonas Brothers, Wonder, Elvis Costello, Herbie Hancock and comedian Jerry Seinfeld are scheduled to be among the performers at tonight's concert, which will be televised July 28.
McCartney was chosen for the Gershwin Prize in November 2009 by Librarian of Congress James Billington, who praised him not just for his music but for his world-wide activism as well.
Sir Paul has been writing and performing for more than five (5) decades - as a member of iconic groups and as a solo artist - in genres ranging from rock'n'roll to classical compositions," Billington said. "But he also has made an impact far beyond music through his humanitarianism and activism around the world, which are emblematic of the spirit of the Gershwin Prize."
As an example of his global concerns, McCartney called the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico "a disgrace." I think most of us think it's a disgrace, and the fact that something like this can happen" is something that is "going to be addressed," he said.
My spin : Way to go Sir Paul you is a class act all by yourself...why do it take people from other countries to tell how great our President is....don't keep me hanging, I'm waiting for an answer..
Kicking back keeping it real and as always having fun.

That's what sis says she may look like her daddy but just like me when I was young.
She has her daddy wrapped around her finger.

  13. Go ahead and read the letter she wrote me in drafts. It includes a lot of the things you told me but from her perspective.

That's wonderful to hear Nana is in a good mood...Maxy didn't want the yard men bothering the rabbits.

  15. I suspect you had your daddy wrapped around your little finger too. I know I had mine all wrapped up. Little girls can do that. Our girls could turn Brian into mush.

  63. I have read that JFK"S back was so bad that the women had to do all the work. He injured it in the war and it got worse over the years. He was not a tender lover either. In one incident he grabbed a female reporter who was interviewing him, threw her skirt over her head and took her against his desk.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Oh he did whip one out and I said No thanks, I really don't care who you are at all.

We can tell when one of us is feeling bad...now that's awesome.

    ReplyDelete
