Truth About Titanic Sinking From Second Officer...Secret For 100 Yrs

Nearly 100 years after the great ship Titanic went down in the freezing waters of the North Atlantic, a descendant of a crew member is claiming to know the truth about what really caused the disaster. Louise Patten, the granddaughter of Titanic's second officer, Charles Herbert Lightoller, alleges that the ship's collision with an iceberg was caused by human error rather than bad luck. She asserts that the man steering the ship when the iceberg was spotted, Robert Hitchins, panicked and turned the wheel in the wrong direction. Titanic's steering required the helmsman to turn the wheel in the direction opposite to which he wished the ship to go. So when Hitchens was told to turn the ship to the left he cranked the wheel to the left, causing the boat to move right, the direction of the iceberg. The mistake was an easy one to make, as many new steamships had steering systems which moved the boat in the same direction as the wheel.

By the time the blunder was noticed, it was too late to avoid the impact. Patten claims her grandfather and other surviving crew members covered up the error to avoid tarnishing their reputations and to prevent the financial ruin of the White Star Line and the loss of jobs that would come with it. Patten's revelations coincide with the publication of her new novel 'Good as Gold,' into which she weaves her account of events.

The helmsman's mistake is not the only error Patten is seeking to expose. She also claims that the chairman of White Star Line, J. Bruce Ismay, insisted the ship continue sailing after the impact, causing Titanic to sink hours faster than was necessary. Patten says those extra hours could have prevented the deaths of more than 1,500 passengers.

Well, Geez Louise, I never cease to be amazed. The Titanic has been in the news again lately so it was the perfect time to plug her book and expound her theory. It's kind of a history changing theory, but keep in mind, as second officer , her grandfather would have been on the bridge the whole time the captain was resting, which is when the ship struck the iceberg. So, theoretically, it's a plausible story. History is rife with stories of small details turning the tide of big events and battles........"For the want of a nail, the horseshoe was lost; for the want of a shoe the horse was lost; for the want of a horse the rider was lost; for the want of a rider the battle was lost; for the want of a battle the kingdom was lost and all for the want of a horseshoe nail."
[For want of a left turn the Titanic was lost.]

  1. HI PIC, I hope you had a nice weekend with your family and were a good girl. I had an odd dream about you last night. Maybe you can use your spooky powers to interpret it for me.
You and I were sitting on a log by a pool of water in the woods. You said you had just got back from Washington and they told you the polar bears were all weak and starving and none of them could be saved. I said if we could make big log rafts and tow them up there, they could use them instead of ice floes. You said you knew a guy with a ship to carry the logs and 'by God' We would try to save a few bears so they could start over.

I don't know what to take away from that dream.

We had a work weekend but the twins were dropped off this afternoon and made my day. They are so funny. They made me laugh and I just spent the afternoom playing with them.

I'm sure you had fun with your flock of babies. Are you packing that barn to the roof with trash and treasures? The kids will probably have a ball with the big sale too. They can sell old toys they don't want any more and donate their cash to the poor polar bears. I know kids love doing that. You could set them up at their own little table. We always did that and our kids had fun.

I'll see you down by that spooky pond. I'll recognize that place if I ever see it...It had pine trees with soft needles and a vine with white flowers growing around a very big old tree...Maybe an oak.....Luv PIC

Hi PIC...had a great weekend and the sit-down went very well,it was a get to know you kind of thing, nothing fancy the men excuse themselves and went to the study for about 30 minutes and we will have a sit down next week.

Your dream may be a good sign that we are going to get that damn loophole closed... We will not give up because we have just begun to fight.
Just think about your dream , turn it around and think postive about it...build log rafts and I knew a guy with a ship...
Remeber PIC: we are more connected than what meets the eye...Your grandfather was a sea captain and my great-grandfather is a sea captain...and we are drawn together for some very impostant purpose and by damn our bears will make a comeback.
I know the people in power don't want to listen to small people like you/I ..just look at BP and Kevin Costner...but they have to listen to us , the extinction of the bears is very close to our own extinction and it will not fix itself.
So rest easy my dear PIC, this fight has just begun.

I'm so glad the twins was over and I know they made Nana day...you and Brian always love having those babies...ain't it fun to hang out with the twins, you know I think kids have more sense than adults, their minds are so fresh and open and they have an opinion about everything and something they are on the money.

I like your idea about the kids with their own table they will get a kick out of it.
We have a lot of kids here and they want to give to aunt NEE's bears. Sha told Jill they could give their old clothes and Jonny told them he didn't have any , they told him he was the big brother so he could help them sell and next year he would have some old clothes/stuff.
NAN/Lois got the ad in the paper yesterday, the yard sale was to start Monday 6;AM...so many people was coming by today Sis/aunt Mae started selling stuff Sally [Dan's wife] told her there wasn't price on them and Sis said she didn't care , just sell ii and let them look around that way they will tell their friends.
There are trees that grow in Canada that it takes a lot of years to mature to grow pine cones and the bears get a lot of protein from the cones/needles..forgot the name ...I think the trees was infected by some type of bug.
    HUGS & KISSES...PIC
