Trayvon Martin is proof that America is just as racist now as it was in 1999 ... when NYC police officers fatally shot a black immigrant named Amadou Diallo -- so says Bruce Springsteen.
Springsteen was performing in Limerick, Ireland Tuesday when he dedicated his song "American Skin (41 Shots)" to George Zimmerman's 17-year-old shooting victim, saying, "We'll send this as a letter back home for justice for Trayvon Martin."
Springsteen famously wrote "American Skin" in 1999, accusing the NYPD officers who shot and killed Amadou Diallo of racism. Among the song's lyrics ... "You can get killed just for living in your American skin"
Trayvon's killer George Zimmerman was acquitted over the weekend of 2nd degree murder and manslaughter. The jury found Zimmerman acted in self-defense.
Yes, America is still racist. The only way to get past it is to acknowledge it and have open and honest conversations about it. Then we need to move on. Until that happens it won't change.
ReplyDeleteNo more excuses like "well blacks do this and whites do that". We 'ALL' need to come together and realize racism is real and we can get past it if we choose to do so.
If George Zimmerman shot Trayvon because he feared for his life, fine. But the fact is, is that he put himself in danger by approaching a stranger. I don't care if it was Hitler waking down the street, if he's not bothering anyone and is trying to get home out of the rain he has a right to be left alone.
If the wanna be cop just waited for the police Trayvon would still be here. I mean come on, what if Trayvon 'WAS' a burglar? What the hell was Zimmermans plan? Ask him to stop breaking into his neighbors houses?
The fat bastard was trigger happy. He was careless and should've at least got manslaughter.
It's good to know that most of America feels this way ...it's a shame the negative side is mostly what we hear .

A judgement of manslaughter would have, at least, given everyone some satisfaction. It would have implied that the shooting may have been accidental or possibly a spontaneous reaction.
ReplyDeleteZimmerman would have gone to jail but it would have given him the benefit of the doubt. Treyvon supporters and Zimmerman supporters would have accepted it...albeit, reluctantly.
Assuuming a civil case will follow and Zimmerman is found guilty (like OJ was), I wonder what can be gained from that. He is not a man of means. And he is already an anathema to the American public.
I hear the demonstrations are getting uglier. The one in Los Angles became violent.
