A NINE-year-old girl who gave birth in Mexico was reportedly sterilized by the doctors who delivered her baby and "seems to be 15".
Last night the family - and the newborn baby girl - fled their tiny breeze block home in a taxi just hours before police and the local mayor showed up to speak with them. Tomas Coronado Olmos, the Jalisco state attorney general, said today that the birth registry of the girl, named Dafne, raised suspicions about her age since her parents only registered it in 2011.

"We have some evidence of irregularities that we need to investigate,'' Coronado Olmos said, adding that investigators want to conduct a psychological profile of the girl. The state's health secretary, Antonio Munoz, voiced doubts that Dafne could have been so young.
"The medical characteristics of this minor do not correspond to a nine-year-old girl. She could be much older. She seems to be 15 years old,'' Munoz said.

Dafne was sterilized following the shock delivery without the consent of her own mother, The Daily Mail reported. She has now reported the Zoquipan Hospital in Guadalajara to the local human rights commission which is investigating. Earlier, officials said they were hunting the alleged father, a 15 to 17-year-old boy, although there were now concerns the girl's stepfather may be the child's father, The Mail reported.

"The girl was ( reportedly) just over eight when she got pregnant. The father ( reportedly) is a boy who is 17, but we have not found him, since he ran away," the mother of the baby, identified only as Dafne, told local officials in Jalisco state after the birth.
"We are looking for the young man to get his story because she does not understand what has happened. This is a rape or child sex abuse case," said Jorge Villasenor with the state prosecutors' office. The baby girl was born by caesarian section on January 27 in Zoquipan Hospital, weighing 2.7kg (5.7 pounds).
Both girls were released from the hospital over the weekend, apparently doing well, but the hospital said it would have to do extensive follow-up due to the new mother's age. The new mother is one of 11 children, according to ABC, and her parents were unable to watch her while they worked.
There have been only a handful of recent reported births among children this young, including a 10-year-old Colombian girl who gave birth last year, and a 9-year-old Chinese girl who gave birth to a healthy baby boy in 2010.
