Big Picture: Spiral galaxy in stunning new view

 

Enhanced Hubble image of Messier 106

More than 20 million light-years away lies Messier 106, a classic example of a spiral galaxy that had been spied upon by the Hubble Space Telescope. Now amateur astronomers Robert Gendler and Jay GaBany have added data from their own observations to create a striking new view of the galaxy.
