Even dressed down in black sweats, a windbreaker and a New York Yankees cap, it's hard to hide when you are Denzel Washington. As he struts into a swanky Beverly Hills hotel bar, the star is instantly recognizable to everyone there. Indeed he's a guy who was known by his first name before being known by your first name was cool.
Amazing ; it was only a few months ago that Denzel learned what that famous appellation means. Playing armchair detective, the two time Oscar winner ran his ID through an etymology search engine.Because he shares his father's name, he already knew the schmaltzy family story about how his dad was named after the physician who delivered him, Dr. Denzel. But no one ever explained the the odd word itself. When the website returned an answer ; the actor was taken aback. It turns out to be a British word that means "fort," his incredibly expressive eyes beaming with genuine astonishment, he said," I never knew that."

Known to pals simply as "D", Washington is defined widely in yet another way: America's favorite actor; an accolade he has won three years running in a national "Harris" poll.
Next Friday(Jan.15) he hits the big screen in "The Book of Eli," a post-apocalyptic tale in which he portrays a noble, butt kicking nomad who roams the scorched Earth carrying a long-forgotten religious text. A bit of a downer, no? Washington said when he signed up for the film, the world wasn't quite headed in the direction it is now, still, I thought it was a fascinating story and dug the guy's spiritual journey, not to mention the the money I will be paid.
More than ever, though, Washington says he feels a sense of obligation , of purpose, even doing what he does best; offering a sense of dignity and hope, even if it's in a doomed sci-fi world.

"Having recently been in states with high unemployment, I feel more than ever before, I need to entertain folks because it's rough out there. They have a greater need to escape and fantasize."
Clearly the actor is moved. "Folks are struggling all over the place. People are out of work. These giant factories are closed. In one location we needed 50 extras and 2,000 men showed up."
Indeed, Washington, 55, has spent his career on the road. He credits his wife of 26 years, Paulette, with giving their four children stability at home while he flew to five different places at the same time. He says Paulette provided the "consistency" of parenting and a normal life....The Washingtons are newly minted empty nesters: Twins Malcolm and Olivia just started college;daughter Kati is finishing up at Yale and son John David, a running back with the United Football League, is starting out in the film business, a co-producer on The Book of Eli. John David proudly explains how he steered his old man toward playing the gritty role in "Training Day" that landed his dad the Oscar for best actor in 2002.

Speaking as a loyal fan, You're still gorgeous and sexy too Denzel. Keep making them Honey and I'll keep watching them.
Hi
ReplyDeleteI bet Paulette likes tinkling under his hood.
A great picture and you are right he is a hunk. He's still a down to earth man.The picture of them is very pretty, she has a pretty smile.
He's a babe. I'd sleep with him if he begged me.
ReplyDeleteNo...He wouldn't have to beg.
ReplyDelete[giggles] No you won't...Brian will beat him cross the head with a newspaper...HA!!
ReplyDeleteBrian couldn't beat anyone with a wet noodle now. He'd say "take her...please"
ReplyDeleteDon't bet on Brian says take her please, you'll lose.
ReplyDeleteIt's Nana's 86th birthday tomorrow.Maybe I'll take her to the mall and let her get lost for a few hours as a special treat.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to find something about Jack Nicholson , I found this one in dad's aarp magazine.
ReplyDeleteAbe sent me one at work about the charging Murry with involuntary manslaughter.a leaked and verified copy of MJ's death certificate that confirms he was murdered.
Oh sweetie that will be so nice, wish her a happy birthday from the kooks down her.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking, you said you can't find the story of Major...Do you think Nana has it thinking you made the copy for her? If not make her one for her birthday.
small things like that will make her happy...all shoot... anything about the major will put her in good spirits and make her happy.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I gave her that copy of Daffodils. I'll check with her.
ReplyDeleteI should have started a portfolio of stories. I have written so many over the years.
I have a portfolio of some of my graphic art pieces.
Nana has to walk with a cane and she walks very slow so I can never figure out how she disappears like that.
ReplyDeleteYou know that Paulette doesn't know how lucky she is.A faithful husband in that line of work is pretty unusual. And what a husband.
ReplyDeleteI bet Nana loves getting away and having you look for her, or maybe you walk to fast.
ReplyDeleteI love these kind of stories, I know women throw themselves at him, but you and I know it can be done, it just take a real man whatever station in life he is in.
ReplyDeleteSo MJ's death certificate says homicide??
ReplyDeleteWOW!And they are indicting him for involuntary manslaughter. He'll just get sent to his room for a while with no TV privileges and then he'll be home-free. And the fricking guy committed murder.
The bad boys we like is pretty nice guys.
ReplyDeleteI will put it in drafts in the morning and let you edit and post it for me, I like the way you edit and I like your spin. O.K.
ReplyDeleteNo such thing as justice in your country when it comes to celebrities.
ReplyDeleteI guarantee that if DC strangled A to death,he'd get off with a warning to behave himself.
They say they have no other choice but to go after Murray, maybe he'll tell who else is involved, I don't think he acted along.
ReplyDeleteO.J. did and Robert Blake got away with murder we are a country with no conception of right and wrong.
ReplyDeleteIt's all about me, me,me.
I don't know if he acted alone.I have wondered if Beady or one of the brothers was involved. No one else would profit. That doctor should be put away for a long time to teach him to value a human life more than his fee.
ReplyDeleteI will say one thing for DC ...he don't have to kill them, he's murdered their self-esteem and they don't realize it until he kicks them out.
ReplyDeleteWhat a crazy world.
ReplyDeleteOn a lighter note ,is Gilly talking yet?Or walking? I bet you won't be able to keep up with the guy.
What was his first word?I bet it was Mama.
Spot on with DC. He does murder their self esteem and their independence.
ReplyDeleteWhen he's done with them, they have been reduced to receptacles.
Just think about it, Murrau had to have an accomplice, MJ was paying him $150.000 a month. When MJ told his brothers he wasn't going to do the TV show, look what happen, now they are all over the place, I don't trust any of them, least of all "BEADY."
ReplyDeleteGilly is walking and talking and his first word was mama and shit.
ReplyDeletehe's potty trained and all over the place..he gives Mamie a run for her money...he's 15 months old now...Nan say she has something for you soon, I don't know what it is.
He's a tough little bugger,he gives the girls a fit. They taught him how to play hide and seek, and they couldn't find him and Mamie foubd him behind the couch sleep.
ReplyDeleteHA..that Gilly is a piece of work. You will have your hands full with him. Where did he learn the word 'shit'??
ReplyDeleteI wonder what nan has for me.
ReplyDeleteI just had to run to Nana's room. She thought she had been robbed. She had some old silver brushes and mirror on her dresser and they were missing. She swore black and blue that the plumber had stolen them. I found them for he.She had wrapped them in plastic and put them in a drawer about five months ago and completely forgot.
ReplyDeleteI would say that Gilly won that game of hide and seek.
ReplyDeleteAcross from our house is a woodsy swampy area and a few years ago a skeleton was found hidden there.Jaye said it was the world champion 'Hide and Seek" winner.
You see it had been there for ten years.
I am glad you found them, I bet they are worth a lot.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea where he gets the word from, I guess he got it from oh you know...hahaha
Nan didn't say, I asked her was it something else about me she was going to spill her guts about.
She said no.
The guy had been murdred by a couple of teens. His family thought he had wandered off somewhere since he was always doing that.We have a murder here every 5/10 years.
ReplyDeleteDid they ever find out who it was?
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky, if a day go by without some one getting shoot or killed we are lucky. Human life isn't worth a plugged nickle here.
ReplyDeleteHa!...Nan likes to talk about you but she is the first to defend you. You'll always have her at your back.
ReplyDeleteThey brought in a forensic team. I watched them work.Just like a scene from CSI. They roped off the area and worked there for over a week.Whatever they found out led right to the murderers.
ReplyDeleteWe was raised like sisters, we get along great and never fought as they say we are joined at the hip...hahaha our girls are joined at the hip.
ReplyDeleteI bet we would be good forensics.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great pleasure for you and Nan to see your girls repeat history.
ReplyDeleteYou and I would make great Crime scene investigators because we are both so damn nosy.We like getting in people's business.
ReplyDeleteOh yes and if they didn't tell us we would ask.
ReplyDeleteNan's husband was hurt in Iraq,he still works.
She never said that he was in the military. I hope he recovered and is well again.
ReplyDeleteA lot of your family is in the military. You were saying that you had lost some young relatives.
ReplyDeleteWe made a pack when we was young, if anything happen to one of us, the other would take care of the children. If Sha and Jill didn't have each other, they would be lonesome, so it's nice to see they have each other.
ReplyDeleteThe little boy is one of their best friends, I think his daddy is in jail, Nan got the lady a job in Housekeeping.
Maybe that little boy can be saved after all. I hope the old man stays in jail for a long time.
ReplyDeleteYes, he's doing good, he almost lost his leg, it gives him trouble sometime, Lost a lot of young ones, thats why Emily was so upset with the Port Hood shooting, those people lost their lives for nothing... James{nan's hubby] works with Chris, they are in Real Estate.
ReplyDeleteI guess James was away for a long time.Nan must have been devastated when she heard he was injured.
ReplyDeleteHis mama was here and I told him no fighting and if he did, I would spank his musty butt..he said I won't fight your girls are to mean.
ReplyDeleteWe put her in the hosiptal, we was scared she was having a nervous breakdown. They have been together since she was a junior and he was a senior in high school.
ReplyDeleteJames says a lot of them gets hurt or killed by friendly fire, the kids are getting younger and younger.
ReplyDeleteHe says it would beat our purpose to pull out now.
What a beautiful love story.I'm so glad he's okay. She should write about her experiences. It would be a lovely story or you could write it.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fascinating that everyone has a story to tell? People love reading stories from real life.
Anyway, sorry for blathering on. Maxy has been standing here for ten minutes with a bone in his mouth.I think he's telling me that he would like to bury it outside. So goodnight and sweet, sexy dreams...catch you later PIC
ReplyDeleteMost of my family has been in the service, Gil was in Desert Storm.
ReplyDeleteTell Maxy to bury it by the Bear..haha
ReplyDeleteGoodnite and have a good one
Later....PIC
