If you thought Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were going to shy away from making Bill Cosby jokes during their Golden Globes monologue… well, you don’t know Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
The longtime friends and former Saturday Night Live co-stars waited until the end of their 10-minute opening to address the elephant in the room by describing the plot of nominee Into the Woods: “Cinderella runs from her prince, Rapunzel is thrown from a tower for her prince, and Sleeping Beauty just thought she was getting coffee with Bill Cosby.”
A collective gasp could be heard from the star-studded audience; nominee Jessica Chastain’s jaw dropped in the front row. (Girls star Lena Dunham could be seen loudly clapping, though.) But Fey and Poehler wouldn’t let up, exchanging impressions of Cosby making an admission of his alleged acts: “I put the pills in the people! The people did not want the pills in them!”
Fey has never been shy about making light of Cosby’s alleged indiscretions. She brought them up back in 2005 in a “Weekend Update” segment on SNL, and then made another reference to the Cosby allegations in a 2009 episode of 30 Rock. And when asked this week if Bill Cosby jokes were on the table, Fey replied, “Oh heck, yes.”
