To Aunt Jeannie :When will the next total solar eclipse happen in the U.S.?

ARIS FOLLEY, AOL.COM       August  21st 2017
On August 21, 2017, parts of the U.S. will experience a total solar eclipse that will block out the entire sun in a major event dubbed the "Great American Eclipse."

It's been 38 years since such an event was seen in the continental U.S. and nearly a century since it was visible from coast to coast.

And it won't be the last.

For Americans unfortunate enough to miss out on the astronomical phenomenon this year, they won't have to wait much longer to see the next total solar eclipse viewable in the U.S., which is only seven years away.

Monday's total solar eclipse is unique in that it's the first eclipse to pass over the entire U.S. in the 21st century -- the last eclipse of this magnitude occurred in 1918.

But after that event passes, Americans will have the chance to view yet another total solar eclipse that falls within its borders on April 8, 2024. According to NASA, the event's path of totality -- a narrow band of land that has a prime view of the moon completely eclipsing the sun -- will span from Texas to Maine.

After the 2024 total solar eclipse, there won't be another in the U.S. for two decades. The next total solar eclipse will be viewable only in Montana on Aug. 23, 2044, and the following year, a solar eclipse with a similar totality path to the one this year will occur on Aug. 12, 2045.

After those, the southern region of the U.S. will experience solar eclipses in both 2052 and 2078, and the northeastern region of the country will experience one in 2079. Alaska will experience its own exclusive total solar eclipses in 2033 and 2097.

But if seven years is too long of a wait for some, there are other vantage points for viewing a total solar eclipse, like Argentina, which will experience a total solar eclipse on July 2, 2019.

Aunt Jeannie , Chris and I hope you enjoy this one also , The first one we had , Chris loan it to one of our students at Sci-Port , We wrote you a byline of what we are doing at Sci-Port .
Chris loan it to one of our students . We teach a class at Sci-Port  two hours  every  Saturday morning ' 8 to 10 AM ."
Chris  and I both read your comment to us  , Chris said the only way Man would go to Mars , mama would be going .
Daddy has a big sing in the yard  saying no boys over 10 is allowed  here , if they are bold enough yo come , they will be shot on sight . Daddy is almost as funny as poppa .

  1. Hi Jonny and Chris,
I guess I'll be heading down to the US in 2024 if I want to see another eclipse in my lifetime. And I'm pretty sure I will want to see it. Maine is not so very far from us. I think it is just over 1000 kilometers ( around 630 miles ). Argentina is a bit far to go for an old lady.
Wow! I am proud of you guys being teachers. It is a good feeling to share what you know and get other people excited about astronomy. You must have learned a lot in the last few years.
I dreamed of going to another planet in my lifetime but the space program did not move ahead as fast as I thought it would. I always believed that Mars would be the first planet we colonized, it's just logical. That's where we will learn what we need to know to go farther.
Your Mama will definitely go to Mars if any of you go. You won't be able to keep her at home. 'Right on Chris'.
Your dad's sign is so funny. But I think there is a hidden message in it to visiting boys. "BE ON YOUR BEST BEHAVIOR". I'm guessing both of you also keep an eye on any boys who approach your sisters. Being protective is what brothers do.
Thank you for your kind wishes. I love you guys and think you are going to be great men who do great things. I also think you will care about people and do good deeds for your community and even farther.
Thanks so much for the great post and videos.
    Hugs
    Aunt Jeannie

    Hi aunt Jeannie,
It would be nice if you go to Maine to see the eclipse , it would be nice for you and uncle Brian to get away and spent some alone time .
Daddy , poppa , uncle Chris and uncle Harvey sit in our class and visit with our teachers .
The teachers and they say they are so proud of us .Chris and I are trying out for the football team , I know we will make it because we have varsity football experience .
Aunt Jeannie , we said daddy put the sign up about the boys , I told the guys they can visit , they can not court Sha or Sheryl , daddy's words is not as bad as his bite. AS long as they mind their P and Qs they will be alright .We do watch out for our sisters and we know the good guys from the rough and bullies .

We are following in our daddy's footsteps .
Aunt Jeannie , I am so blessed to have my family . Daddy is just wonderful to all of us , nothing comes before his family .
WE love you very much and may your blessing be many .
    Love
