President Barack Obama : Supports ' Ground Zero Mosque '

(August 13) - President Barack Obama gave a thumbs up Friday to a proposed Islamic community center and mosque that is slated to be built two blocks from the site of the 9/11 attacks in lower Manhattan.

"Let me be clear," Obama said at a  White House Dinner celebrating the Islamic Holy month of Ramadan, "as a citizen , and as president , I believe that muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country."

"That includes the right to build a  place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws  and ordinanaces," Obama said, according to CNN.

Obama's remarks drew a prompt response from Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y , "President Obama is wrong," said  King.  The Associated press reported. "It is insensitive and uncaring for the Muslim community  to  build  a mosque in the shadow of ground zero. While the Muslim community has the right to build the mosque , they are abusing that right by needlessly offending so many people who  have suffered so much.

The proposed contruction of the Cordoba House Islamic  Center has divided the public . Obama's remarks follow a line of argument put forth by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who made an impassioned defense  of the construstion of the Islamic center i a speech delivered on Governor's Island.

Politicians such as Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich have opposed the mosque, citing their view that the former site of the World Trade Center is "hallowed ground" and that building Cordoba House in such close proximity is an affront to the memory of those who died in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

"This is America,"  Obama declared today, "and our commitment to  religious freedom must be unshakeable. The principle that people of all faiths are welcome in this country, and will not be treated differently by their government, is exxential to who  we are. The writ of our founders must endure.

New York's Landmarks Preservation Commission has cleared the way for construction  of the Islamic  center, which will occupy the site that once housed a Burlington Coat Factory outlet store, but the state's governor , David Paterson, has suggested that other land  might be made available to the developers of the project.

My spin : I  Hope the developers choose anther site to build the mosque on...relationships are not going well between the Muslims and most people right now,  before writing this post , I called random phone numbers (50)  to see what others was thinking  and the response was not  favorable.... look out President Obama ...Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich is going to eat you alive...This one the world will be watching closely....some that was polled said if they build the mosque  there  will many more lives lost.
Kicking back and keeping it real.

Hi Sweetie... When I got your note last night that you was exhausted, I knew you had a rough day and the heat was no help.I know about the shakes, you/I get them for different reasons...you get yours from to much pollution and gas fumes...I get mine when my sugar levels is too low. A cup of herb tea and rest is the best thing .
You told me you had to carry Nana to get her check-ups and to her financial advisors and I wished I was a fly on the wall to see them cling in terror....way to go Nana. If Nana feel up to it, take her out to dinner and let her show off her beautiful cane and tell the waitress beware here comes Nana.[giggles]
You/Brian always have a good time with J/P and it's just good to relax as much as you can in this heat.
The twins will enjoy you if it rain or shine....I hope it rains not really hard just a slow steady drizzle.
So good that Jane/Alex can get away to visit and enjoy the family also.
Dale/Barb... you need to say no more, I know you/Brian always love going out with them and shooting the shit. Hahaha Have a great time shopping and just hanging out with them.
Yes I have the girls clothes and I bought shorts to match when they wear dresses, Jill hates dresses , Sha don't care as long as they are pretty...If they had their way, they would wear the colors of the rainbow all at once just like the circus clowns....HA!
The school mailed a list for supplies and Gil said he would take his little women to get them, I said have at it buddy. He asked the best place to buy them and I told him Walmart, so off he goes, but he didn't understand what he was getting into, when he returned his long ass was beat and he asked me how I did it and I just smiled.
No we haven't had a major tornado here yet, but they can strike anytime.

I gave Gilly and Dad a kiss for you and Dad says how sweet...he didn't want you to be mad at him for not answering your note, He said he got it and was quite impressed he enjoyed it very much, especially Rizzo's dangle, he said the old boy sure got around.
Dad was with aunt Mae all day yesterday, she doing fine but just wanted him close by.
Now you asked what I was doing today...Betts left Friday morning and Leon called and asked us if we need a good housekeeping service,we told him we will come and help him get ready for Carrie, you can't get one on the weekend, her things arrived Friday evening and he put them in the garage, she will be here Tuesday night...so you ask me how hard can it be to clean an almost new how ???
Let me tell you, that Betts is a nasty 'ho' they had roaches all over the place...the linen was dirty, the stove frig...nasty.. Dad asked him how did he lived in the filth and he said he wash his undies and carry the others to the cleaners.
We all are going back tomorrow... aunt Mae/Sis/Dad sat out on the deck and had a good time looking at the lake..
Leon asked aunt Mae was she going to stay with him and she said hell no she likes where she is, she has her own space.
Gilly looked for the girls and I told him they was shopping and go play with Poppa and off he went and when the girls got back he didn't want nothing to do with them, that little monkey was mad.
I will talk to you a little later and have fun tomorrow and Monday.

    Glad you feeling better....talk to you tomorrow...Hugs & KISSES...PIC

PS: Dad says he will talk to you Monday , he's not sure when he's leaving don't think it will be this month, he's waiting on Shirley.
    HAVE FUN...the Witchy-Voodoo woman...[giggles]

  2. Roaches???? Geez Louise!I thought Betts was head of housekeeping at the Eldorado. Remind me not to stay wherever she is working.

Not fair that you have to clean up after her. That's her final revenge. She's laughing right now, picturing all of you on your hands and knees scrubbing and picturing Dad whacking roaches.

That was not a nice way to spend your weekend.

We've just had a lovely visit with Steve and M. They stopped by with coffee on their way to a charity golf tournament. Nice to catch up on family news.Shayne just finished his summer job working as an orderly at the university hospital. It was hard and sometimes horrible work but he loved every minute. This reinforces his determination to become a doctor despite his own problems. The hospital wrote a glowing report about him and said he was one of the best student orderlies they have ever had.And that he did everything, even the nasty stuff well and with a great attitude. That boy brings tears to my eyes when I see that amazing spirit.
Justin injured his knee during sports and he can't walk on it. It looks like surgery for him. Too bad he'll have a bum knee from now on. He's only 24.
Jeremy has two fairly sure interviews with two different companies. I say fairly sure because they have already interviewed him once. One of the jobs is with an investment firm as a junior financial advisor. That is exactly the kind of entry level job he was looking for. He always waits until he gets exactly what he wants in life.
Our wild man Jason is having a ball and I hope he's not spreading his seed too generously around the Rocky Mountains or he might come back with a wife and kid.

You better watch that Gilly when he is in highschool and college; he sounds like a troublemaker to me.He won't be so scared of his own farts by then.
Jill will be far too sensible to get herself in that kind of trouble and Sha will follow her good example. A girl's brain is in her head where it should be.

Since it is raining now our plan is to take J and P and twins out to dinner and go back to their house for a game of cards. They are coming back from the lake early.

I'll see you down that lonsome highway a piece. I want details about what Betts took with her and how dirty the bathrooms were....HA!

  3. PS: I laughed about Gilly showing attitude with the girls. He felt abandoned by them. He's only two; imagine the hard time he'll give them when he's five.
