Ferrari 250 GTO :Sold To Private Buyer For $30 Million "OUCH"

The legendary 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO offered for private sale by RM Auctions has been sold to an undisclosed buyer for a price that some speculate could clock in at $25 - $30 million. The car, chassis no. 4675 GT from an important collection in Japan , is one of only 36 250 GTO's originally produced and one of a limited few with Series II GTO bodywork. In 2008 British real estate baron Bill Ainscough reportly sold his 250 GTO for about $ 28 million to an anonymous tycoon. It ranked as the world's most expensive car until two weeks back when, as Luxist's Noah Joseoh reported, an ultra-rare Bugatti Type 57sc Alantic changed hands privately for $ 30 - $ 40 million.
Update : The buyer has been revealed as UK radio host Chris Evens, who claims he got the 250 GTO at the bargain basement price of about $18 million. Top Gear notes that evens said he expected to pay closer to $ 25 million when originally announcing his intention to acguire one of the rare cars for his Ferrari collection, which includes a $ 12 million 250 California Spider SWB, 275 GTO, F40 and an Enzo, Quite a score in any case.
"The exclusivity of the Ferrari 250 GTO cannot be understated," notes Max Girado, Managing Director of RM Europe. As they rarely come to market , new owners become part of a very exclusive 'club' and are welcomed with open arms at literally at any of the worlds great concours events, races and rallies. It's fantastic that this car will now be used in earnest on the classic car scense around Europe.
My spin: Boys love playing with their toys at least we know they are not out chasing bimbos, get 2 or 3 men together looking at a engine, make no different if it a car/boat etc, they are happy.

Retired New Yorker Finds Amazing Treasure

When a New York resident retired, he wanted to invest his retirement money wisely and carefully so that it would last. He decided to buy a home and a few acres in Portugal. The modest farmhouse had been vacant for fifteen years and there were no heirs. The property was rather run down and it was sold for taxes owing. As you can imagine, he got the farm for a fraction of it's worth. There had been many interested parties and visitors over the years but no one had made an offer.
There was an enormous concrete block barn on the property with big, rusty steel doors. For some reason the doors had been welded shut. They could not be opened without professional help and a heavy duty generator. No one wanted to go to that expense just to see a bunch of rusty old ploughs and possibly an old tractor. The only window in the barn was about thirty feet off the ground so no one ever got a look inside. The barn was a huge monstrosity that didn't suit the rustic setting of the farm and it discouraged buyers.

The new owner and his wife moved into the farmhouse and made themselves comfortable. He was dying of curiosity to see what secrets the barn held. So, he and his wife bought a generator and a couple of grinders and set to work cutting through the welds. It had been so well sealed that it took them a few days days to get the doors open.

They hauled the doors back on their rusty hinges and beheld a sight that filled them with awe and amazement. There were rare and valuable vintage cars as far as the eye could see. Not a square foot of space was left vacant. Years of dust covered everything but the man could see that they were in excellent condition. It was a car buff's dream of heaven.

The cars were valued at $35 million dollars. The new owner and his wife had full legal claim to the whole lot. They are now enjoying a wonderful retirement and don't have to be so thrifty with their money any more.
