Where Are They Now?: "Stars Of Color Purple"

After achieving worldwide acclaim the box office hits 'jaws'(1975) and 'E.T. the Extra-Terrestial'(1(82), Steven Spielberg hit a milestone when he directed the film adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, "The Color Purple," in 1985.
Featuring an array of new talent, including Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey and Akosua Busia, as well as veterans Danny Glover, Laurence Fishborne and Margaret Avery, The film was nominated for eleven(11) Academy Awards, including bestpicture, best actress, including best actress for Whoopi Goldberg and best supporting actress for both Avery and Winfrey. It did not win any.
The film follows the life of Celie Johnson (played by Whoopi Goldberg), a young black girl growing up in the early 1900s. The first time we see Celie, she is 14 and pregnant by her father. We stay with her for the next 30 years of her tough life.
Twenty-five years after the film debuted in theaters, Black Voices wanted to take a look at some of the actors who stared in this film and whats happened in their lifes since making the cinematic masterpiece.

My spin on this movie:I read the book and when the movie was produced , it was a must see, I enjoyed it tremendous .They all have went on to make a name for themselves: Danny Glover is still active in film and is a director and still acting in movies: Whoopi Goldberg is co-host on the "View" and has made many a movie and TV shows: Oprah winfrey what can we say went on to have the most watch show in the world, the "Oprah Winfrey Show." Laurence Fishburne starred in many movies and TV shows, he is co-starring in CSI:Miami Las Vegas . Isn't it great to see some people with high profiles with a sense of high moral standards and don't air all their dirty linen for the world to see: We're not saying they are perfect, but most is not making negative news all the time. Oprah Proposes To Her Toyboy----"WTF "

Oprah Winfrey is head over heels in love with Hollywood Powerhouse Tyler Perry--and has secretly proposed to the 15-years-younger hunk, says sources. "Oprah is notoriously gun-sky when it comes to marriage, but she'd wed Tyler in a heartbeat" says the friend. The talk show titan avoided walking down the aisle with her former beau Stedman Graham,58, for 23-years.But now pals say the 55-year-old TV queen has fallen hard for the handsome stud who pens the hit CW sitcom House of Pain and appears as the hefty , meddling grandma Madea in a wildly successful series of movies. There was instant chemistry between them from the moment they met a few years ago, says the friend. When Tyler appeared on "Oprah's" show in 2007, she couldn't stop touching him! He even brought her a "Bentley" for Christmas that year!
In the summer of 2008, they went to Italy together and she really fell in love with him on that trip. The following October , when the heart-throb opened his Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Oprah brought along Stedman and her galpal Gayle King, but she only had eyes for Tyler,says the source. Oprah says she knew they were soul-mates right from the start. She and Stedman had been on the outs for awhile, and Tyler came along at just the right time.Oprah told Tyler , he's just the kind of man she always dreamed of spending her life with--and then she said maybe they should run off and get married. "Oprah's made no secert of being reluctant to walk down the aisle, but it certainly sounds like she was proposing to him!"Friends say Oprah feels Tyler lets her be herself and they credit him for easing her worries about her weight.

The power couple openly hold hands in public, often have their arms around each other and they sometimes seem fused at the hip. Expert Dr. Lillian Glass says their bodies are speaking the language of love. I've never seen this sort of closeness between Oprah and stedman, says Dr. glass, Stedman is not oprah's equal, Tyler Perry is. The attraction between Oprah and Tyler has already ripped apart the talk queen and her galpal of decades, Gayle,54. It was reported two weeks ago, Oprah has split from the woman many believe is her lesbian lover, say sources, leaving Gayle seething with jealousy.Oprah and Tyler raised eyebrows with their public displays of affection on the red carpet at the November 2 premiere of the film "Precious, The Oscar-tipped movie they produced together. They couldn't keep their hands off each other, say an eye-witness says.
The pair has a lot in common, including childhoods filled with poverty and abuse. In fact, New Orleans native Perry credits Oprah for putting him on the road to success before they ever met. He saw an episode of her show about 20 years ago where she urged viewers to overcome their painful past by putting pen to paper. He did and starting writing plays. Today, Perry reportly rakes in $75 million a year as an actor and TV producer, while billionaire Oprah scoops about $275 million annually. Their bond only grew stronger when they teamed up to produce "PRECIOUS" and traveled together to Toronto to plug the movie at the city's film festival in September. With Tyler in her life, it's clear Oprah got her groove back, said the source. I think she would marry him in a heartbeat. Their romance has even sparked speculation they'll merge their empires a friend says. Can you imagine if "Harpo Studies" joined forces with "Tyler Perry Studios?" says the pal. They'd rule the world!"
My spin on this: Okay...it's time to enjoy being a woman, is nice to have galpals to gossip and share little secrets with, but there is nothing that can hold a candle to crawling in bed with your very own man and just cuddling close and listening to him whispering sweet words of love in your ears....it's time for you to drop all the loose baggage and be happy. but hey, that's just me.
