"Mom Body Slams Bank Robber" Way To Go

When Kat Khalid heard gunfire coming from inside a bank where her son was cashing a check, the 48-year-old mon didn't stop to think. Instead, she rushed straight into the shooting spree, terrified for her son's life. Once inside, kat saw a woubded security guard covered in blood and kneeling on the floor, desperately fighting a bank robber armed with an UZI machine gun. Unconcerned with her own safty, Kat thought of her son, 23-year old Brenden, and her maternal instincts took over, and even though she is crippled by rheumatoid arthritis,the 5-foot-6, 160-pound Kat -- who was wearing a pair of Tinker Bell flip-flops - charged the 6-foot-tall bank robber and body-slammed him to the ground.
That was my son in there , my only child. I've heard that you never come between a lion and her cubs, well, I'm a leo, and my name is Kat!
Kat's son was inside the bank to cash a check, and she was sitting in the car in the handicapped parking spot when she saw this guy dressed like Abraham Lincoln going into the bank. He had on a black wig, a really bad one, and a fake beard that looked like it was hooked over his ears, and he was carrying a big canvas bag. I felt a chill go through me, I throught : He's going to rob the bank and my son's in there!" She then heard gunfire. Kat rushed in and saw customers ducking and scrambling for cover. I saw a secerity guard on his knees, he was coverd in blood , the robber had shot him and pistol whipped him. The robber was bent over the guard, and I could see they both had hold of a machine gun, and they was fighting for control of it. It look like the guard was losing consciousness, I thought , 'I've got to do something before the robber gets the gun, because if he does , he's going to start shooting again. I chose that moment to run at the robber and tackle him. I charged him and body-slammed him to the floor. We both went flying, and it knocked the wind out of me. I ended up on top of him, I saw the gun was underneath him, the gun was pointed at the guard, so I grabbed the gun and pointed it at the robber's crotch. I knew he wouldn't pull the trigger then.
I was trying my best to stay on top of him,but somehow he got his legs free, and started kicking me, all the time we was fighting for the gun, he was saying : I'm going to (bleeping) kill you. A man ran over and I yelled at him: Grab the gun. But instead of grabbing the gun, he put the guy in a head-lock .I still had hold of the gun, but I was starting to lose my grip.
My son came running over, and I told him:Grab the damn gun!" He did what momma told him! He twisted the gun out of the robber's hand and got it away from him. Other customers rushed in and held the robber down until the police arrived. My son didn't say anything unti we was driving home. I guess we both was in shock. Then he looked at me and said, 'Mom, don't ever do that again." On November 12, 2009, Kat, who has one grandchild, was presented with a "Courageous Citizen Award" by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office. The robber was sentenced to 28 years to life in prison .
My spin on this: Way to go Kat, a lot of kudos to you, when it comes to a mother's children, we throw caution to the wind. I wonder how the robber is going to be viewed by his fellow inmates. I don't think he's going to want them to know that he was taken down by a disabled grandmother wearing "TINKER BELL" flip-flops.[GIGGLES] Stay tune more true crime to come: The saga continues.

Temperature warning as Copenhagen climate deal emerges

A deal appears to be in sight for the final day of the UN climate change talks but there are fears it may not prevent a 3C (5.4F) temperature rise. (What is the point if not to slow temperature rise??)Denmark's prime minister spoke of "very fruitful" talks as Copenhagen prepared to receive US President Barack Obama and 118 other world leaders.
Both the US and China, the two largest emitters of greenhouse gases, have indicated they may make concessions. It is hoped these may help overcome sharp divisions at the two-week talks.

The proposals on the table - especially from industrialised countries - fall far short of what the world needs. China signalled concessions on the monitoring of emission curbs while the US said it would commit money for developing countries. Denmark's Lars Lokke Rasmussen called late-night talks with a group of 26 influential world leaders on how to unblock negotiations.
"We discussed how we can make progress and we had a very fruitful, constructive dialogue... for almost two hours," he told reporters.
After the leaders left, their aides continued working on a political agreement for them to inspect later.
"We tried to find an umbrella political accord, if you like," said Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, who also holds the rotating presidency of the European Union.
"We tried to advance the main points and have asked the 'sherpas' to work on the text through the night so we can discuss them tomorrow morning."

In another development, President Obama may reach an agreement in principle on nuclear arms reduction with his Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, when they meet in Copenhagen on Friday, a senior US official said.
Despite many expressions of concern about projections of climate change, finance has emerged as an issue more likely to make or break a deal than emission pledges.

After all the haggling ,the agreement will fall far short of what is needed to save the planet. Can you believe that politics, egos and money have turned these talks into an excercise in futility??

'Green' vibrators promise sustainable pleasure

When world leaders in Copenhagen argue for days in knife-edge talks to save the planet, what more fitting way to relieve the tension than an environmentally-friendly vibrator? The global sex toy industry is worth an annual 15 billion dollars (22 billion euros), and uses up a mountain of batteries in the process, many of which end up as toxic waste.

But now one Irish company reckons they've got the solution to shake up the market: a vibrator they are calling the world's first-ever "green technology sex toy". The Earth Angel, described as "eight inches (20 centimetres) with a sleek white finish", is a wind-up vibrator which comes with a handle built into the bottom.
"You just flip out the handle, grab a hold of it there, and you just wind it," said Janice O'Connor, the co-founder with her husband Chris, of Caden Enterprises which makes the gadget.
"So for four minutes of doing that, you should generate enough power to give you 30 minutes of full-on, right-to-the top vibrations," she told AFP.
She added: "I've only used it a couple of times, and it's fantastic. It's very intense, and sometimes, at the top level, depending on the person that's using it, it can actually be too intense sometimes.
"That's why we have four different levels on it."

The vibrator is made of 100 percent recyclable materials and the couple hope it will encourage sex toy fans around the globe to do their bit for the environment.
"We want to change the way that people view adult toys and the adult industry as a whole," they said.
"We wanted to produce an environmentally-friendly sex toy that appealed to all consumers.
"Every industry has an obligation to do as much as they can to reduce the effects of climate change and by developing this new technology we hope that others will follow suit and look for alternative ways to design and manufacture their products."

Chris O'Connor is the brains behind the power-storing technology that he said could be applied to any small power device, such as electric toothbrushes. He said climate change had been his primary motivation rather than sexy fun.
"When I was a child we'd have months of good weather," the inventor said.
"Now that's totally changed, 100 percent changed, in this country. And that's why I decided I'd try to make a change for the better, for the planet."

Public morality in Ireland is still traditionally Catholic, so producing the green vibrator there was out of the question - it is manufactured by a British-based company - while financing it proved an obstacle course. But the O'Connors, both practising Catholics, believe God is on their side.
"In all fairness, wouldn't God want something that's green and that doesn't do any damage to the environment?" asked Chris.
An Earth Angel costs 70 euros (100 dollars) plus shipping costs and around 1,000 have already been sold to people seeking its special brand of "sustainable pleasure.

Australian Scientists Discover Coco-nut Carrying Octopuses

Australian scientists have discovered an octopus in Indonesia that collects coconut shells for shelter - unusually sophisticated behaviour that the researchers believe is the first evidence of tool use in an invertebrate animal.
The scientists filmed the veined octopus, Amphioctopus marginatus, selecting halved coconut shells from the sea floor, emptying them out, carrying them under their bodies up to 20 metres, and assembling two shells together to make a spherical hiding spot.
Julian Finn and Mark Norman of Museum Victoria in Melbourne observed the odd activity in four of the creatures during a series of dive trips to North Sulawesi and Bali in Indonesia between 1998 and 2008. Their findings were published Tuesday in the journal Current Biology.
"I was gobsmacked," said Finn, a research biologist at the museum who specializes in cephalopods. "I mean, I've seen a lot of octopuses hiding in large sea shells, but I've never seen one that grabs it up and jogs across the sea floor to a more preferred location. I was trying hard not to laugh."
Octopuses often use foreign objects as shelter. But the scientists found the veined octopus going a step further by preparing the shells,cleaning them out,carrying them long distances and reassembling them as shelter elsewhere.
That's an example of tool use, which has never been recorded in invertebrates before, Finn said.
"What makes it different from a hermit crab is this octopus collects shells for later use, so when it's transporting it, it's not getting any protection from it," Finn said. "It's that collecting it to use it later that is unusual."
The researchers think the creatures probably once used shells in the same way. But once humans began cutting coconuts in half and discarding the shells into the ocean, the octopuses discovered an even better kind of shelter, Finn said.
The findings are significant, in that they reveal just how capable the creatures are of complex behaviour, said Simon Robson, associate professor of tropical biology at James Cook University in Townsville.
"Octopuses have always stood out as appearing to be particularly intelligent invertebrates," Robson said. "They have a fairly well-developed sense of vision and they have a fairly intelligent brain. So I think it shows the behavioural capabilities that these organisms have."
There is always debate in the scientific community about how to define tool use in the animal kingdom, Robson said. The Australian researchers defined a tool as an object carried or maintained for future use.
"It's another example where we can think about how similar humans are to the rest of the world," Robson said. "We are just a continuum of the entire planet."

The octopuses are developing more sophisticated brains and yet it seems to me we are not .We've hit a wall in our development and evolution. Perhaps on some distant day the octopuses will take control of the world if we don't obliterate the species first( which is much more likely). After all that's what we do and we do it very well.
